SEPTEMBER 19TH DAY #9 BLOG

SEPTEMBER 19TH DAY #9 BLOG
Proposing a toast with Gaspacho!

John, Judy, Ron, Sandy, Jane in Jerez looking for s place for supper.

Room 2 suite at Palacio Garvey Hotel.
ell after a peaceful night’s sleep the AC lights covered by a towel we arose to absolutely clear, clear skies over Granada no smog inversion this AM. And so we packed and headed around the corner for toast, fresh orange juice and toast with garlic, tomatoes and olive oil. Today will be our longest dry nearly 4 hours Granada to Jerez  On the road at the usual time (10:30 AM)  and arrived in Jerez at about 14:30 PM. Sandy Hand was in the lobby as Jane entered to help us gain access to the parking lot. Sandy had been sick on Sunday night/Monday AM back over in Priego  de Cordoba but by now on Tuesday afternoon her 24 hour bug was gone and she was mended again. Right car parked, bags drug in thru the backdoor of the hotel and placed into our room we were definitely ready for lunch so off we set to find a menu del dia. Just one block from the hotel we were enticed by the sign stating lentils soup was on. We sat ordered and awaiting our nourishment. But today the lentils  were all exhausted so Jane settled for a local soup of garbanzo beans, veggies, and sausage which was quite nice. Half way thru our meal,  four other Amercians meandered through the same plaza and joined us for lunch at the adjoining table.
Menu’s of the day, sandwiches and tapas ordered along with drinkies served by our server who was from Peru. Back to the hotel for siesta and then plans for the evening were made. We have all bought tickets to the horse show at noon on Thursday.
We wandered though a small part of the old part of town to have a glass of wine and some tapas. No one was ready for a big meal. Paul guessed that our waiter, and darned if we wasn’t right, was from Ecuador! Everyone seemed to be dragging a bit and this is supposed to be a holiday not a marathon, so off to bed we went.  Wait! Not yet! Our room is facing a little Plaza and there was a little concert going on…..full blast! Quite good actually, so we had a drink and listened for a while and it wound up about 11:30. Not too bad.
We have this enormous room. This hotel was the palace/manor house of the Garvey family. You know, the sherry people. I am going to wear my pedometer just find out how far I walk to the bathroom. We stayed here a few years ago on one of our winter trips and I think it was quite new then. The gloss is off a bit but it is still a lovely place. There is a beautiful staircase (but we use the elevator which travels up next to the old city walls) and some fabulous big art on the walls. I’ll get Paul to post a picture of a couple of photos. I’m really hungry so off to breakfast we go. I do believe I have already done my 10,000 steps just taking care of business this morning!
This picture hangs in the staircase and measures about 8' by 12' in size. Too large to nick and hide in our suitcases to bring home. It is for sale at 40,000 euros.
