MONDAY in Seville BLOG #14
Monday in Seville means a trip to the gothic Cathedral, a
wander around town and a carriage ride for Jane perhaps.

Right, breakfast at the Regina Eurostars was part taken
again accompanied by many patrons obviously from France. Off we go to catch the
bus into town the number 03 will do and costs us 2 euros 60 cents for a couple.
We exit at the Gold Tower next to the river and head into the city center. Soon
we are the plaza and cathedral which has an entrance line wrapping itself nearly
½ way round (Paul said they probably have only one (1) ticket seller causing
the backup. Turns out after just 15 minutes we saw the3 gals selling tickets
and audio
guides for the visit. The
cathedral which is supposedly the largest Gothic example standing, we both felt
was not as impressive as say Valencia or Barcelona cathedrals. It certainly is
big though! I lost Paul and in a church that big with hundreds of visitors you
just know I was not going to find him. . God bless cell phones! So, I exited
and called him on the phone and directed him to the correct exit, Next was ride
down to the Plaza Nueva on the new tram! We wandered about a bit and found a
place for
montaditos,
which are tiny sandwiches with all sorts of fillings. The place was a
Cervanceria and claimed
to offer 100 different sandwiches!!
Quite delicious. We headed for the river, I
thought, for a bus back to the hotel but Paul had other ideas. Near the Torre
de Oro were several horses and carriages and that was our destination. It was
wonderful! Our horse was Muneco a fine specimen of horsehood, very sweet. The
ride was spectacular. Through the park and Plaza de Espana around the important
monuments. The day was fantastic!! Not too hot and slightly overcast and
enjoyable.
We headed back for the inevitable siesta. It is good because
you rest and get ready for the next phase of walking and eating! This took
place locally at the Alameda de Hercules. We visited several places, imbibed,
ate and moved on. It is fun to watch the Spanish paseo. Such a good custom. We didn’t do all the usual touristy haunts
because we have been in Sevilla before and done it all to death, but now we
like to wander and find our own new places. It is a beautiful city, but it
pains me to see how much graffiti there is. A quite lovely street with elegant
buildings and balconies and garage doors and lower walls absolutely covered in
tagging. So sad, I’m not sure what delight they take in ruining a lovely
neighborhood. I don’t mind so much the tagging on underpasses etc, but on
peoples’ homes? It’s a shame.
